My idea of a pleasant detour often involves a small bookshop and a place to sit with a coffee. I am just as interested in the story behind a favourite object as I am in the object itself. I am happy to revisit a favourite place when there is good company and no need to rush. A little thoughtfulness usually means more to me than a grand gesture.
