I enjoy days that begin with comfortable shoes and a loose idea of somewhere to explore. I would choose a picnic with a pleasant view over a timetable packed from morning to evening. A flask of something warm and an extra layer are often all I need for a simple afternoon out. A shared sense of wonder can make a very ordinary walk memorable.
