My idea of a pleasant detour often involves a small bookshop and a place to sit with a coffee. I enjoy a conversation that wanders from an interesting idea to an ordinary detail of someone's day. I usually remember a thoughtful conversation long after I have forgotten what was on the menu. A curious mind and a considerate manner make a lovely first impression on me.
